Red Hook

Named for the neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, the Red Hook is essentially a sweeter take on two classics: the Manhattan and the Brooklyn. It balances a base of spicy rye whiskey with a measure of Italian vermouth Punt e Mes and sweet maraschino liqueur. While it doesn’t have the extensive history of its predecessors—it’s a 21st century creation from former Milk & Honey bartender Enzo Errico—it’s equally worthy of praise.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • .5 oz Punt e Mes
  • .5 oz maraschino liqueur
  • Brandied cherry

INSTRUCTIONS

Step one

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and fill with ice.

Step two

Stir, and strain into a coupe glass.

Step three

Garnish with a brandied cherry, if using.
