Shiso Bourbon

Bourbon is often left out of the cocktail equation. Thou shalt solely sip it neat or over a big ol’ ice cube, right? Wrong! Sweet, honeyed bourbon can be incredible in a cocktail, as shown in this deceptively simple, ultra-refreshing drink from Michael Noah, bar manager of NYC’s Restaurant Marc Forgione. In it, Noah balances rich bourbon with bright, fresh lime juice and almost minty shiso-infused simple syrup.

Step one

Fill a glass with crushed ice.

Step two

Pour the bourbon, simple syrup and lime juice into the glass. Top with a splash of club soda, garnish with a shiso leaf and serve.
