Grasshopper-Garnished Grasshopper

Courtesy of Thrillist

The Grasshopper is a great drink with a misleading name, as it contains no actual grasshoppers. So we fixed it. Grasshoppers aren't strangers to cocktails; in Mexico they're fried and served as bar snacks with cocktails like Palomas. Here, though, they're covered in white chocolate and perched atop the creamy cocktail as a sweet, crunchy garnish.

Sweet, Savory

  • 1-2 grasshoppers
  • 1 oz white creme de cacao
  • 1 oz green creme de menthe
  • 1 oz heavy cream
  • 1 bag white chocolate

Step one

For grasshoppers, add water to a saucepan and rest a stainless steel bowl on top. Add white chocolate to the bowl, and heat over medium heat until the chocolate melts.

Step two

Dip grasshoppers individually into the melted white chocolate. Place on a wax paper sheet and refrigerate until hardened.

Step three

For the cocktail, combine all remaining ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a coupe.

Step four

Garnish with a skewer of chocolate-covered grasshoppers.
