This variation on a Whiskey Sour combines spicy rye whiskey with fresh orange juice and lemon juice. Created in 1898, in honor of politician Martin M. Lomasney’s election, the Ward 8 cocktail was named after the district of Boston whose votes clinched his win. Instead of using store-bought grenadine for the cocktail, use a homemade hibiscus grenadine; it will add a rich tartness and bright, floral sweetness that pairs perfectly with the pepperiness of the rye.
