While tiki includes a number of simpler cocktails ripe for adaptation and reinvention, sometimes bartenders look outside the category for inspiration. Lindsey Taylor of Little Buddy Hideaway in Asbury Park, New Jersey, for example, turned a commonplace Whiskey Sour into a tropical delight with the addition of orgeat, cane syrup and tiki bitters. It’s the perfect drink to convince new people to dip into the tiki trend.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 oz Bourbon
  • 1 oz Rye Whiskey
  • 1 oz Lemon Juice
  • .5 oz Petite Canne Cane Syrup
  • .5 oz orgeat
  • 3 dashes Tiki Bitters
  • Lemon wheel and spear of 3 Luxardo cherries, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Step one

Add all ingredients save for the garnishes to a shaker and fill with ice.

Step two

Shake, and strain into a tiki glass filled with crushed ice.

Step three

Garnish with a lemon wheel and a spear of three cherries.
