More and more things everyday are being created with recycled material, from carbon neutral shopping complexes/homes, to comedy neutral stand up routines from Carlos Mencia. Taking care of your recycled art and toy needs, Loran Scruggs. Created by a Northwest sculptor/acupuncturist (obv) who collects bottle caps/tin cans from restaurants & friends, LS churns out amusingly colorful and eco-friendly metal art/toys inspired by the scale and proportions of bottle caps, and a classic crafter book "The Fine Art of the Tin Can", otherwise known as Spam 60 Percent Less Sodium. The metallic artiness starts with wall affairs ranging from a black pine board arted w/ a tin blue jay and Blue Moon caps, to one taken from the creepy dude on the Burt's Bees containers, to a series of alphabet inspired pieces like "Z" that depicts a zebra made from bar codes; there's also a bunch of collectible art toys like a stewed tomato can pick-up truck, and a bottle cap crowned/Hershey chocolate bodied rodent inspired by the time the artist saved one from being run over, thus avoiding a sure... wait for it...yep, here it comes... rat-tastrophe! The most numerous pieces are working collector whistles on 26" ball-chains made from two pieces of folded tin, and finished w/ classic bottle caps ranging from Budweiser, to Old Colony Grape Soda, to My Pop's Root Beer, because its grandpa who's apparently all about the cough syrup. Rounding out LS's collection are myriad other random items, like tin wrapped toy animals, and oversized dice studded with bottle caps, a reminder of those who're usually on the forefront of enviro-conscious behavior: casinos?
