Tinder Can Now Figure Out Which Profile Pic Will Make People Like You

Finding the right dating app profile picture is pretty stressful.

When you have so many adorable pictures, how can you possibly know which one is going to reel in the most matches? You can ask your girlfriends, but they aren't the people you're trying to attract.

Tinder might actually have the solution you've been waiting for. This could be the coolest app update we've seen in long time -- even better than Spotify songs on your profile.

The new "smart photo algorithm" will automatically tell you which pictures are your best. It works by rotating the photos on your profile so different ones appear as your main image. Then, it logs responses to each image and determines which gets you the most likes or right swipes. By tracking each individual's swiping style -- as well as the overall popularity of specific images -- it can determine which photo to lead with for your potential dates.

"Smart Photos takes into account each individual's swiping pattern when selecting which of your photos they’ll see first," Tinder reps said. "It's a system that gets smarter with more input: the more you swipe and the more you're swiped on, the better the algorithm serves you. Yes, there's science behind the swipe."

Once the algorithm determines which photo gets the most responses, it will move that one to the front so all the potential honeys can see it. So if someone always swipes right on cute kitten pics, that shot of you with your 20lb orange tabby is going to be prominently featured to optimize your chances of making the cut. Big Brother, much? Sure. But after tolerating Facebook's facial-recognition technology and just about every other strange matching algorithm at play for friend suggestions and potential matches, this is just another way for a dating app to literally ensure you put your best pic forward.

To enable the new technology, you need to go into your app settings, click "edit profile." and activate the "Smart Photo" setting. Happy hunting, everyone!
