They say if you can't do, teach, which explains why so few people end the night teaching Jordan. Now some professors of alcohol are proving that they can do as well: Shaker & Company.
After a decade spent pouring knowledge into the brains of the world's best drink-smiths, tipple institution Shaker & Co's now practicing what they preach with an eponymous first bar: a low-lit, old-fashioned, "New Orleans-style" affair whose wooden walls hold gas lighting, a piano, and a vast floor-to-ceiling bar filled with both booze & books (with brain cells, it should be education before decimation). Over 500 spirits enable the making of virtually any classic, while the set bevs list includes just a dozen drinks, all priced between 6-8 £'s and stretching from the S&CO (a mini cocktail shaker filled with Cognac, housemade cider chai, tamarind & maraschino) to the tequila, house ginger & grapefruit liqueur, and "delicious" bitters Breakfast With Obama (Clinton typically sneaked out before eggs). You can also drown your sorrows in the Potato Sack Sour (stone fruit/ Aperol/ Benedictine/ gin), the fruity Polmos To Polynesia (vodka, lemon, house banana & cashew orgeat), or the Brother Griswald: Johnnie Walker Black, house "Christmas Cake Reduction", and "Blue" Chartreuse -- though it's only sad because you reduced all the Christmas cake.
They've also got a series of craft taps (incl. their own lager), plus Southern-style nourishings courtesy of shredded pork 'n beans, cheese & ale hush puppies, and bourbon-dipped wings -- all of which, like the drinks, come at a nice, cheap Price.
