Since we saw Gábor Balogh's smartwatch design, we've been aching for more progress in creating a smartwatch that actually looks good, blending traditional watch aesthetics with smart technology. But while Balogh's design features sweet graphics, it borrowed from an existing watch design already in production instead of breaking new ground. Box Clever's new design concept re-imagines the entire smart watch.
The watch would use a rotating bezel for its controls, and work in concert with a smartphone to provide wrist top notifications on its curved OLED display.

Box Clever's smartwatch concept doesn't exactly borrow too much from the traditions of Rolex, Patek, or Omega, but it does use that tried-and-true watch styling as a jumping off point for the design. This might actually make a lot of sense, since a sixties-looking leather-banded relic with a state-of-the-art screen might clash a bit more than two elements that were designed together. Regardless, we'd love to see this tradition-respecting concept get made.
