Remember the Phoneblocks modular mobile phone concept that went viral over the summer? Well, it's coming to life thanks to Motorola's new Project Ara. Led by the company's Advanced Technology and Projects Group, the planned line of hardware will allow users to create a custom configuration of parts (a.k.a. modules) into a preset endoskeleton. This will not only allow for power-users to outfit their smartphone for specific needs (e.g., with an external battery, advanced processor, or special keyboard), but will keep you from having to replace your entire device when the screen cracks or a battery no longer holds a full charge. Joke's on you, planned obsolesence!
