Qplay launched with a bang earlier this year, but came tethered to a $50 streaming box à la Apple TV. Brought to you by the guys who invented TiVO, it seemed like yet another way to watch video on your TV by paying a fee. But now, the Qplay app is free on your iPad. Free. As in, no money required, no ads, and no streaming box.

The app allows to you to stream "Qs" that are broken up into categories: watch movie trailers, video clips, and stuff from Digg, Reddit, Funny or Die, and the New York Times. The controls are super simple, and there are no breaks that force you to watch ads. Skip around as much as you want, or waste hours just watching HD GoPro footage of dudes jumping off of cliffs and out of airplanes. It's basically the best of the Internet, delivered directly to your iPad.
