Picking the best sports city in the country is simple: to avoid bodily harm, just choose whichever city you happen to be in at the time.
Unsatisfied with this cowardly option, the team at WalletHub decided to build a much more comprehensive ranking of the country's top cities for sports fans. To make said list, WalletHub combined data from its previous rankings of the best cities for football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and soccer, assigning each one a weight relative to its popularity -- so, 49% for football, and 9% for soccer. Seems legit.
Boston stole the gold with strong scores for each of the sports, knocking Denver back into second place (take that, Buffs!). It wasn't all big cites at the top of the list, though: East Lansing, MI beat out Pittsburgh to clinch its position in third, despite the Steel City holding first place in hockey, second place in baseball, and third place in football.
Why'd Pittsburgh lose, despite its strong showing? Well, being ranked 85th in basketball and 95th in soccer probably didn't help. Still, the 'burgh beat the pants off its PA rival Philly (10th place), and that takes the sting out of things a bit.
