Waiting for your luggage to come down the conveyor belt at baggage claim is like playing bingo, in that the results are random, people are elbowing their way to the front, and there are a lot of losers passing time. But at least one airline is making an effort to make it suck less.
Delta has vowed to get its SkyMiles members their luggage within 20 minutes at baggage claim, though it's not quite Dominos' "30 minutes or less" guarantee. Mostly because pizza is way more delicious than a checked bag. Unless that checked bag is made of pizza.
If customers wait even 21 minutes, Delta will make it up to them by issuing 2,500 bonus miles after the SkyMiles member submits an online request within three days after flying.
Of course, there are catches: the guarantee only applies to domestic fliers traveling anywhere in the US and Puerto Rico, and doesn’t apply to bags that are misplaced, damaged, oversized, or overweight. So when your skis go missing on your flight to Muscat, that's your problem. Because why would you bring skis to Oman?
Delta’s promise is only good through March 31, as it’s currently under trial, but if the test-run proves successful, the airline plans to extend its 20-minute promise.
