A crazy Dutchman built Noah's Ark to scale, and you can visit it

The good news: there is a Dutchman named Johan Huibers who had a dream in 1992 about the Netherlands being overtaken by the ocean and responded by dedicating the next 20yrs to creating a sea-worthy, fully-scaled replica of Noah's Ark. The bad news: not even these enormous lengths can undo Noah's tragic folly of leaving unicorns off the original floating zoo.

That's Johan Huibers, the dude who had the dream and built the ark, holding the highly detailed schematic that he worked from.

In truth, ol' Johan's built two arks since '92. This is the first one, which was completed in 2007. At nine meters wide, 13 meters high, and 70 meters long, it's pretty freaking massive... but it's actually much smaller than Noah's.

Not satisfied with having a non-Bible-sized arc, Johan built a bigger one...

... a TEN-TIMES-BIGGER one. At 30 meters wide, 23 meters high, and 135 meters long, some might even call it Biblical.

When it was launched in 2012, the initial conversation with the shipyard pretty much went like this... Them: "What are you launching"? Johan: "Noah's Ark." Them: "{silence}".

The result: Johan's ark, which even has a resto, a cinema, an amphitheater, and meeting rooms. It's moored on the Merwede River in the city of Dordrecht.

Inside, they went to great lengths to build it similarly to how Noah would've built his ark, ironically without using flood lights.

They even went so far as to stencil Noah's original URL on the bridge and fly a Dutch flag, just like he did.

Arks are big.

They're so big, they make life-sized giraffe statues look small.

Pretty much the same way Noah brought the animals he was saving to his ark.

Believe it or not, there are even real-live adorable animals on the ark.

Oh, and Noah and his wife are there too... You know, so you can walk down, grab him by the collar of his robe and say, "WHY NO UNICORNS?!!!!!"
