Surprisingly, Emirates Is the Best Airline for Poor College Students
Low ticket prices? Check. Wi-Fi? Check. A great selection of Vin Diesel movies? Check. While there's no young adult section on airplanes, the requirements to be a YA favorite aren't all that difficult. And in an upset, Emirates is the big winner with the kids, according to a study on who young adults love flying with the most.
Student airfare deal site Student Universe released its “Best Airlines for Students” awards, with the Gulf airline winning the Best Overall Airline prize. Student Universe's survey accounted for the number of bookings, yearly sales growth, pricing, and terms of sale. The site also factored in special fares and programs initiated to help traveling students in its rankings. A spokesperson for Emirates cited the airline's award-winning, in-flight entertainment system, free Wi-Fi, and variety of routes flown from nine major US cities as reasons for the YA love.
Only one American carrier, Delta Airlines, won an award, taking home Best For Group Travel. Student Universe deemed group travel deals an award-worthy perk, since college-aged students often study abroad or join volunteer programs, like digging water wells in Africa. Or at least that’s what they tell their parents.
Check out the winners below. And then daydream of the salad days of traveling on next-to-no money, and loving every minute of it.
