Come for the funky vibe, stay for the rum bar

Following a massive $42 million facelift that resulted in considerably glammed-up decor, The James -- located a stones throw away from Ocean Dr -- still manages to maintain its original 1939 charm via a plethora of nostalgic relics, as well as arguably the most local-centric eatery in Miami. Whether you opt for the studio suite or an actual multi-room apartment, you can pretend to watch that 42in plasma when in reality you're making like every other person in Miami and staring directly into the mirror behind it. The two signature restaurants are sexy, seafood-heavy Catch and Florida Cookery, whose 305-native head chef frequents local farms every week to hand-pick the ingredients that'll go into bacon-aided skillet French toast, and lychee-glazed Florida quail. This would be that bacon French toast. You're welcome. Now that you've eaten enough bacon French toast to make taking your shirt off a crime, either hit the pool right outside Cookery's dining room...... or head to the private beach cabanas. And since both of these lounges would be silly sans cocktail, stop at South Shore to partake in their staggering collection of imported rums.
