Venue Info

Stroll under a Hackney cinema billboard reading "Nothing To See Here", and you'll find Ruby's: a speakeasy run by a pair of location scouts, set in a basement that's seen shoots for both videos (Adele & Amy Winehouse) and flicks like The King's Speech, which probably got even more incomprehensible in places like this. Oddly, the spot also used to be a Chinese takeaway (apparently one with bad fortunes), and while the new operation is furnished with ornate antiques, they've maintained its raggedly stripped wallpaper of indeterminate age.
