Japanese Restaurant

The SoCo Zen is now a higher-tech Japanese concept in which each table's equipped with an iPad for ordering sushi rolls like the R2D2 (grilled hangar steak, green onions, avocado, crispy shallot, sesame, yuzu miso sauce), upgraded entrees like a 24hr-marinated Karaage Chicken, and drinks from a full bar boasting 10+ rice wines creatively mixed in concoctions like the Japanese Devil's Tail: habanero-infused sake served in a hollowed cucumber, thus making it very difficult for you to keep your cool.

In Asia, pink flowers signal Cherry Blossom—and in Austin, pink flowers at a Japanese restaurant signal flirty, flirty fun. Lucky Robot is the ideal spot for young love to blossom, and if not, hey, at least you’ll get some great new photos for your dating app profile. And the sustainable sushi restaurant offers more than just fish. There's ramen, seaweed salad, pork buns, Chicken Karaage, and a whole lot more, not to mention an awesome liquor cabinet that includes a ton of sake.

Lucky Robot, though once just an IG hub (to sushi snobs, anyway), has stood the test of time thanks to a consistently awesome menu of Japanese hits. It spans ramen, teriyaki, gyoza, and buns, but it’s the sushi selection that’s the most extensive, sporting everything from vegan maki rolls to delicious roasted nigiri. Whatever you go for, be sure to add some of Lucky Robot’s famous Brussels sprouts with lemongrass soy on the side—they’re bursting with flavor.

At first glance, Lucky Robot may seem like a hyped-up SoCo restaurant decked out for the ‘Gram, but a decade of celebrated culinary service means the food certainly lives up to the hashtag. There’s only one ramen on the menu, but it’s a real winner, ladeh with pork belly, bean sprouts, ajitama egg, pickled ginger, aji amarillo may, and a flavorful shoyu pork broth. Also on offer is a wide selection of Japanese fare, from Chicken Teriyaki to Steamed Pork Buns to Sushi to a funky Tokyo-style smorgasbord.
