The Vegas beer scene is exploding, especially in the up-and-coming Downtown Arts District, which at last count, had five breweries and at least four taprooms. Able Baker brewing, for example, gets everything right; mixing an appreciation of Las Vegas history with a killer brew lineup. The brewery is named after the first two atomic bombs detonated at the Nevada Test Site and celebrates the city's nuclear legacy on the on-site taproom, which opens wide to Main Street with a roll-up garage-style door and outdoor patio. The venue has a casual vibe, with rows of picnic tables, but the beer is a serious business, with more than 30 brews on tap, including the Atomic Duck (a bright, citrus-forward IPA that's well on its way to becoming Sin City's unofficial house beer) and Impale'd Ale, a bourbon-inspired Imperial Brown Rye ale produced in collaboration with Chris Kael from the band Five Finger Death Punch.

This Arts District brewery gets its name from "Able" and "Baker"—the first two nuclear bombs dropped in the Nevada desert. The decor reflects the theme, paying tribute to the state's role in the Atomic Age. Yet the place is much more than a gimmick. Able Baker Brewing is a fun social spot with long wood tables and garage doors that roll up to an outdoor patio. Food is served from the Arts District Kitchen, a walk-up counter with a menu that changes frequently. Choose from more than 30 beers on tap, including collabs with former Golden Knight Ryan Reaves' 7FIVE brand (best known for the Training Day golden ale) and Chris Kael of Five Finger Death Punch (a barrel-aged dark Impale'd Ale). The Atomic Duck citrus-forward IPA remains Able Baker's signature beer, while the Radioactive Duck IPA balances a fruity finish with the bite of serrano peppers.

Able Baker is certainly one of the most popular and well-loved breweries in Las Vegas, with a stellar draft lineup and specialty drops with their own cultish followings. The Arts District taproom is a hugely popular spot for people to hang out and enjoy a few beers, bring their dogs to chill on the patio, watch the game (whatever game!), and grab a bite to eat—the Arts District Craft Kitchen located inside of Able Baker is a separate entity operated by the same owners as 595 Craft and Kitchen, and provides some great classed-up pub food to go with all that beer. This is the local brewery’s locals brewery, a neighborhood fixture and a game-changer for Las Vegas craft beer culture.
