Having been awarded Best Newcomer in the Great British Pub Awards in 2013 for London and the South East, The Kennington’s been drawing drinkers ever since. The contemporary corner pub has a touch of living room library feel: bookshelves (there’s a book exchange, feel free to take one as long as you leave one sometime) and deep-green pleated leather sofas and armchairs, giving you optimal conversation space (or you could just sit and stew, your call). Scrabble boards are on-hand for the wordy and a notable quiz night is hosted on Sun evenings for the trivia-brained, with a top prize of £100 (even losers get free snacks so it’s a win-win, really). Expect Traditional British fare (fish fingers and tartare sandwich; Scotch egg with leeks, smoked bacon, pork and onions; sausage and mash with red-onion gravy). DJs on Fri and live music on Sat nights keep the mood alive. Dogs are welcome and no kids after 7pm, so don’t get too drunk until then, you monsters.
