Cocktail Bar may not look like much (or have a creative name) with the only thing adorning the plain Jane white facade being a small neon sign, but this mixology house from Black Hoof’s Jen Agg is serving refined, well-executed cocktails worth a second sip. Don’t expect any vodka on the menu (Agg thinks it’s boring), but do expect classics, with martinis made exclusively with gin and Manhattans mixed with house bitters. More daring “Wild Card" selections do get fun and weird, however (a Gold Fashioned stars buttered-popcorn brandy, yellow Chartreuse, bitters and cherry Coke). While the changing cocktail menu can get complex, the snack menu keeps it simple with just mixed nuts, smoked olives and pimento cheese. Distressed cabinets, pressed tin ceilings, frosted windows and dim lighting give a speakeasy feel to the place without veering into tacky territory.
