Alpine Food Shop in Elmwood Park may not like like much more than a convenience store, but it’s home to some of Chicagoland’s best subs. Since 1955, Alpine has been serving cold cut subs -- and other deli items like Italian sausages -- to locals and in-the-know Elmwood Park visitors. The subs, offered in 6-inch, 9-inch, and 18-inch increments, are served on soft bread with enough meat, cheese, vegetables, and condiments to last for more than one meal, especially if you order the large.
