Madison
This University Heights restaurant serves Mediterranean fare in a sleek, cedar-walled space. There's a front bar and lounge that leads to a large, dramatic indoor/outdoor dining area. The menu is fairly small and curated, divided into shares, salads and plates. They're open for brunch as well, serving eclectic variations of classics (think grown-up beet waffles).

Madison took to the streets, literally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding a sprawling parklet where guests can still enjoy high-quality cocktails and a small, but well-curated menu of continental and Mediterranean-inspired bites under the iconic University Heights sign. Inside, the modern interior is the ideal backdrop for Instagram portraiture, fusing elements of Norwegian and Japanese simplicity under a dramatic, arching ceiling of warm cedar cladding.
How to book: Reservations for groups of up to eight can be made via OpenTable or by calling 619-269-6566.
The Brunch Burger (available on weekends) from neighborhood eatery Madison on Park is made with Angus beef, seared and slipped into a brioche bun. But things get more exciting from there with the addition of sharp, aged white cheddar, pickled shallots and jalapeno-bacon sauce, served with waffle fries and house-made pickles. Weekdays, the Mediterranean Burger, a lamb/beef combo, topped with cucumber tzatziki sauce and feta, is a gyro-adjacent flavor bomb. Vegetarians can sub a zesty chipotle black bean patty at no extra charge.
How to order: Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are accepted if seating is available.
