Tawla pays respect to lesser-known Eastern Mediterranean flavors through a daily-changing menu of falafel-and-hummus divergent recipes from owner Azhar Hashem's native Jordan, as well as Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, and Israel. The space, too, pays homage to the intersection of the Mediterranean and the Middle East with turquoise tiles and intricate trellises climbing the walls, plus backgammon sets for guests to play on the small outdoor patio. "Tawla" does mean backgammon in Arabic, after all.
