Sugar Shack, originally from Richmond, turns out handmade yeast and cake donuts, plus fritters and cinnamon rolls for good measure. The Alexandria shop has around 30 flavors that change throughout the day. Customer favorites include the Samoa donut (yes, like the Girl Scout cookie), mixed berry glazed, red velvet cake, and maple bacon. It's even glazing donuts with local beer (Port City Porter and Port City Optimal Wit). Plus hidden away inside inside Sugar Shack is a speakeasy.
