Another transplant from the Bay, Eko Kitchen popped up in the Arts District’s Crafted Kitchen earlier this spring, offering a modern take on Nigerian cuisine that is informed by chef/owner Simileoluwa “Simi” Adebajo’s multicultural Nigerian-American background. For those who appreciate classic Nigerian dishes, try Grandma’s Asun, or smoked goat meat that’s stir-fried in a sweet and spicy red pepper and onion sauce and served alongside fried plantains and sweet potatoes. While Nigerian cuisine isn’t necessarily known for being vegan-friendly, plant-based patrons will love Maami’s Egusi soup that replaces chicken with oyster mushrooms (the correct side choice is pounded yam).
