Flavors From Afar
20 Awesome Meals and Deals to Hit During dineLA Restaurant Week
Take a global food tour at Flavors from Afar, a social enterprise started by former refugee and Tiyya Foundation founder Meymuna Hussein-Cattan, who uses her foundation to locate refugees and asylum seekers who are interested in popping up in Flavors from Afar’s rotating kitchen to showcase their traditional, home cooked dishes. Their Restaurant Week menu is similarly inspired, offering not one but two entrees, including Somali chicken fried rice with halal chicken leg quarters and deep fried potato, and Afghani Burani Banjan with pan-fried eggplant and mint yogurt sauce, plus a side and two beverages.
The deal: $65 for two entrees, one side, and two drinks.
What to order: Somali chicken fried rice and Guatemalan adovato goat plate, sambusas, and passionfruit jamaica slush.
