Owner Raul Ortega immigrated to LA from a small town in Jalisco, the Mexican state that gave us tequila, mariachi, and plenty of other Mexican staples. It also happens to be on the Pacific coast, meaning Ortega grew up knowing a thing or two about quality seafood. His Tacos de Camarón are consistently hailed as some of the city’s best—a melty mass of fried shrimp, red salsa, and thin-sliced avocado heaped into satisfyingly crunchy taco shells. From shockingly spicy Aguachile to fresh, flavorful Ceviche and Octopus Tostadas, the rest of the marine-centric menu is just as mouthwatering. You can find Mariscos Jalisco trucks in Boyle Heights, downtown, Pomona, and Mid-City (Gardena is closed until further notice).

It’s impossible to have a discussion of mariscos in this town without the giant truck looming over everyone—Mariscos Jalisco, the beloved icon owned by Raul Ortega, whose salsa-doused and avocado-topped deep-fried shrimp tacos have been featured on TV, in the Michelin guide, and in every publication that covers LA food (plus some that don’t, too). There’s not much more to be said except that it’s good as hell, man. You’ve probably been already, but you should go again. Like, now. See you there.

Started by Raul Ortega over 20 years ago, Mariscos Jalisco has become one of the stars in LA’s taco game. Starting with the original outpost in Boyle Heights, Mariscos Jaliscos has grown to four locations, including another truck in Downtown LA (near the Garment district), a truck in West LA, and a brick-and-mortar in Pomona. This mariscos chain is one of the best places in the city for a foolproof taco experience, and their tacos de camaron are practically a Los Angeles delicacy. Along with great tacos, they specialize in ceviches and spicy aguachiles, or try the Poseidon tostada that features a wide array of mariscos topped with fiery shrimp aguachile.
