Red's Java House

It doesn’t get much more classic SF than this old school waterfront dive bar and restaurant that has been serving tasty, inexpensive burgers and strong drinks to locals and tourists alike since 1955. Located on Pier 30, this iconic spot has a patio on the water with views of the Bay Bridge, which means the burgers (served on sourdough with onions, pickles, and yellow mustard) could go for a lot more than seven bucks ($11 if you want it with cheese and a soda). One thing to note: Despite the name, you’re not going to Red’s for actual java. A pitcher of beer, on the other hand…

This classic SF establishment has been serving super affordable burgers with a side of sunshine and Bay Bridge views since 1955. The menu at Red’s is limited—it’s pretty much just burgers and hot dogs—but we’re not complaining because we would never order anything else. The burgers come on a sourdough roll with mustard, mayonnaise, pickles, and onions, and you can get a double for under $11.
How to order: Walk-ins only.
Open since 1955, Red’s Java House is a city institution and its patio is as essential to summer in San Francisco as Giants baseball and an unbeatable choice for a pre- or post-game beer. The patio juts out over the water in the shadow of the Bay Bridge and is one of your best options for a cold one and one of the most affordable burgers (served on sourdough) in town.
How to book: Walk-ins available on a first-come, first-served basis.
