The 30 Best Pizza Places in NYC
Roberta’s burst onto the Bushwick dining scene more than a decade ago, and it’s grown more beloved with every passing year. Choose from a roster of expertly crafted options like the Famous Original, swiped with red sauce, melty mozzarella, sharp Caciocavallo and parmesan, and a sprinkle of chili flakes and oregano, or design your own with twenty-some-odd toppings. A Domino Park location is also now open.
When talking about the Neapolitan pie movement, Queens native Carlo Mirarchi’s pizza shop is crucial to the conversation. Since opening their doors more than a decade ago, the joint has acquired acclaim for sublime pies pumped out of a giant wood-fire oven and a chilled out ambiance complete courtesy of picnic tables seating as well as an on-site bakery. Choose from a roster of expertly crafted discs like the Speckenwolf (mozzarella, crispy speck, cremini mushroom, red onion) or go for the beloved chili flake and Caciocavallo topped Famous Original. In addition to this original Bushwick location, there’s another Brooklyn storefront in Domino Park, as well as two more in Los Angeles and Singapore.
The eatery that gets mentioned more than any other when New Yorkers discuss the city’s best pizza, Roberta’s is chef Carlo Mirarchi’s dually dive-y yet hip ode to wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas, seasonal veggies, and natural wines. This Brooklyn institution has gone on to launch additional locations around the country and offer frozen pizza to enjoy at home, but the original Bushwick operations continues to remain as its home base. Drop in for perfectly chewy, leopard-spotted pies with classic-ish toppings, like the lauded Bee Sting with tomatoes, soppressata, mozzarella, basil, chili, and honey.
