Leif An started this roastery in 2013, opened a Buena Park cafe in 2015 and added a Newport Beach restaurant-cafe in 2020. This year, they expanded to Echo Park with a minimalist-looking space featuring modular wood furniture and stainless steel. The counter hosts a Poursteady pourover bar and a sleek, silver three-group La Marzocco espresso machine with pedal steamer from designer Kees van der Westen. Two single-origin espressos are exclusive to this location. Regional manager Hannah Kim isn’t always at this location, but is quite knowledgeable, presenting Ethiopia Kayon Mountain pourover and Honduran Miguel espresso with true enthusiasm. Stereoscope also offers cold brew, iced pourover, and teas. Impressive attention to detail includes measuring TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) daily to ensure ratios stay consistent. They chart each coffee by acidity, aroma, sweetness, complexity, and aftertaste on a graph. Stereoscope plans to add a slow bar for special roasts and classes.
