Thirsty Thursday: The Best Bottles We Drank This Week, 11/6/14

Oh my crap, is it Thursday already?

Thursday is the Tom Selleck of the weekday lineup—classy, but demanding. You don't have to drink, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have a little sip. If that Tom Selleck analogy didn't do it for you, how about this: Jay Z's cognac, vodka dedicated to the greatest rock band of all time, and a beer that's literally made of rum. Whether you treat your Thursday like a mustachioed lady-killer or the bastardized version of Friday, you still have a solid reason to drink—and that reason is named Monday.

The Macallan Fine Oak 15 Years Old—$99.99
This is the sexiest Scotch that's graced Supercompressor's headquarters in a long time. It's a hell of a bottle and a testament to Scotland's on-point whisky game. How does one even begin to describe a drink like this? It's zesty, fruity, has hints of chocolate and cinnamon—it feels adult. You feel like a tough guy drinking it. Don't you dare mix a 43% ABV Macallan with anything, even ice dulls the experience. Sit down, shut up, grab a glass, and pour this stuff straight. You won't regret it.

Killer Queen Vodka—$48
We're starting to view Firebox as our sassy British girlfriend and its latest offering of Killer Queen Vodka makes us love them even harder. Paying tribute to the late, great Freddie Mercury, this 40% ABV vodka is distilled seven times and filtered four times to match Mercury's level of dedication and sheer sex appeal. It's guaranteed to blow your mind. KQV comes out on the 40th anniversary of the release of the song in which this spirit grabs its namesake. How does it taste? Along the lines of "fastidious and precise."

D’USSÉ VSOP—$50
Well, you're going to feel like a baller drinking this stuff—especially considering it's Jay Z's drink of choice. D'ussé is #humblebrag in a bottle, minus the part about being humble. Honestly, it's the kind of high-class drink that says: "I know how to drink." The 40% ABV cognac itself is perfect: sweet, spicy, woody, and bold. Start with VSOP and then go straight to the $230 XO bottle.

Caliche Puerto Rican Rum—$23.99
Straying from our usual sensibility of "drink this stuff straight" or die, Caliche is a rum that's perfect for mixing. Puerto Rico knows what they're doing when it comes to Caliche and this stuff has been a family-owned business for six generations. That's a lot of time to perfect a rum. Made with Caribbean molasses and distilled five times, this 40% spirit has a clean taste that's dynamite with a solid artisanal soda. Hell, drink it straight, too. You can drink anything straight.

Innis & Gunn Rum Aged—$Varied
Is it rum? Is it beer? It's actually a full-bodied 6.8% ABV bottle of don't-worry-about-it. But seriously, it's Scottish beer. It's a bit of both—the beer is matured over oak heartwood and infused with selected rum, which makes this the Cronut of drinks. God, is the Cronut still a thing? It's rich and malty, which pairs well with venison or duck—and also mellow, which pairs well with a nice Tuesday night.

Jeremy Glass is the Vice editor for Supercompressor and pairs well with a nice pair of jeans.
