Getting back to nature's OK, but what about getting back at nature?! No one poison su-macs you in the face! Totally pwn Virginia's woodlands, with EX2 Adventures
Founded by the former head of George Mason's outdoor activities program, EX2 puts on forest-tearingly extreme adventure races, and're just now primed for a tuned-up version of their biggest/most-badass event: the Rocky Gap Adventure Race, with this year's shred-worthy, all-new course laid over a drastically increased distance (22-28 miles), and made more competitive with a first-time point deduction system to punish racers that go overtime, unlike soccer's overtime, which just punishes the viewers. Racers work solo or in teams of 2-3, and navigate the grueling terrain with supplied race passports/compasses to collect points by hitting required checkpoints (misses are penalized) and "secret", non-penalized bonus checkpoints (via colored markers), all recorded by an electronically-controlled card check-in process called "e-punching", cutting-edge technology first pioneered by Lil Mac in 1984. Actual point-to-point travel's switched up amongst high-intensity trail-running "on and off trail", short-distance wake-churning across Lake Habeeb in supplied kayaks (and PFD's!), and Xterra-commercial-worthy mountain-biking (BYOMB) over "demanding semi-technical single-tracks", so make sure you can reach the orange button with your pinky before the solo comes
For the laid back extreme adventurer, EX2's got a mid-October series of 5- and 10- mile trail-runs dubbed the "Backyard Burn" -- also what's gonna happen to your yard if it doesn't shape up. Sucker's gonna get poison sm-oak'd!
